Larval survival is decided in the first weeks, and it is decided largely by what the larvae are fed. This category covers the two live feeds most marine and freshwater hatcheries depend on: Artemia, as shell-on cysts and in decapsulated form, and Chlorella microalgae for rotifer culture — supplied both as a live liquid concentrate and as a dried powder.

Artemia cysts ship in vacuum-sealed cans of 500 g and 1 kg, packed into cartons. The vacuum seal is what gives them a long shelf life with no cold-chain dependency, so the packaging is part of the specification rather than protection in transit — and it is why cysts can travel by dry container to any destination. Store them cool, dry and sealed: moisture and repeated air exposure degrade hatchability, not time on the shelf.

Super Fresh Chlorella SV12 is the exception, because it is alive. It is cultured in Japan and air-freighted in a 20-litre insulated case under a 2–6 °C cold chain so the cells arrive intact. Emerald Chlorella Powder covers the same nutritional ground where keeping a live culture is impractical, and stores at room temperature.
